About Me
The past decade of my life has acted as a foundation for the growth and cultivation of my civic voice. At 10 years-old, I jokingly decided that I wanted to pursue a career in law after watching the movie Legally Blonde. As I grew, so too did my once light-hearted decision. At 16-years-old, that decision solidified upon my move from the Middle Eastern city of Dubai to the coastal town of Ventura, California.
Moving from Dubai to California halfway through high school left my life in limbo. Nevertheless, my adaptable nature allowed for the stabilization of my life. Amid this progress, however, one aspect remained unsettled: my chemistry class. Three weeks into classes and we were on our third substitute teacher, Ms. Brown— a self-proclaimed marine biologist with no interest in teaching chemistry.
My experiences in chemistry class were microcosmic to the patterns of schooling around me. I watched how the United States’ underdeveloped education system failed these children by supplying them with unqualified teachers and meager resources. I wanted to understand why there was such a great educational divide between my two homes.
As I scoured my mind for a solution, I was only faced with the complexities of this country’s schooling systems and how the true powers of change were held with the lawmakers; my eyes were opened to the law’s role in reforming such systems. Understanding such a notion inspired me to pursue law school in an attempt of reaching the power of attaining a seat at the table and rewriting the legislation required in reestablishing the priority of education.
Entering my college career, I joined extracurriculars and jobs that abetted in my advancement of civic engagement. From working at a business litigation local law firm, to competing in mock trial, to being appointed the Attorney General of my university’s student government. As I conclude my time in college and begin my time in law school, my educational experiences will linger as motivation in my attainment of a Juris Doctorate. My passion for bridging the gap in education has carried me into the legal field, providing me with the necessary instruments in practicing my civic voice.
